Norway 2016 - Day 8 - Trollstigen and Geiranger Fjord

Day 8

Molde Molde

Trollstigen

Again, I incorrectly memorized the paper map, so I considered myself smarter than GPS and missed the correct turn. Maybe even twice 😃

Trollstigen (road of trolls) - it's a hardcore. Reasons:
  • not much visibility (you can't see 'ahead' of the turn, and there could be someone going towards you from there)
  • cars / bikes in front of you, especially on descents
  • being paranoid about not to overheat brakes (=as a result, trying to use them as less a possible.)
  • small engine of my car definitely wasn't happy about those ascents and constant brake-accelerate
  • passing oncoming large vehicles (like buses). But in my case it was only once or twice, so not an issue
On the other hand... There are trucks, buses, cyclists and whatnot driving that road 😃 I think those guys have a bit harder time and don't whine 😊
Looking at Trollstigen photos later, many of them were under or overexposed due to conditions ( guess I should've used filters / bracketing or something ), but still, it's better than nothing :)

Geiranger Fjord

Geiranger fjord is damn MASSIVE. You can not feel that via photos, but can get some idea about the scale if you look closely at boats on the water. After Geiranger, the road is quite interesting as well.
