Day 4 and 5
Day 4 - Tromsø-Bjerkvik
Some notes:
- Unusual location of the cash register in Rema 1000 - like you still go through the shelves / stands after you've paid.
- It's possible to choose 'Estonian' as a language on fuel pump computer ( Shell )
Day 5 - Lofoten (Bjerkvik - Moskenes - Bodø)
Some notes:- I think I saw first tunnels with steep ascents / descents on this day.
- Unorthodox garbage collection procedure (actual excavator in truck's trailer).
- WC road sign which pointed to not-yet-built WC 😞
Plan was to drive through Lofotens via E10 and sleep already on 'mainland' (Bodø).
So what can I say? Places are beautiful, it was definitely worth the visit. Not a lot of photos taken though ( once you get into that 'road' mode, you don't want to stop every km).
Also it took time to get used to tunnels with either noticeable ascents or descents... There is something about a long tunnel (like 5+ km long) that makes me nervous by itself, and if you add descent / ascent with such degree that you have to use engine braking... Well... it's even more nervous.
Was surprised by single-lane bridge with traffic light, somewhere just near Moskenes. Maybe just traffic is so low that it won't justify making it bi-directional... Who knows.
Moskenes-Bodø ferry departs not very often. So, after looking at .pdf with official schedule I was hoping to catch 19.15 departure... but as it turns out, this ferry was taken out of service just a few days ago. So I had to wait several hours for the next one. Of course had I known that in advance, I wouldn't have to hurry much / could make more stops / photos. Well, you can't have everything. 😐
A lot of different people with different vehicles waiting for the ferry, most memorable was a couple from Spain on Triumph (I think it was Spitfire, anyway a 1970's british car). Guy was doing some maintenance (spark plugs etc).
I liked the ticket seller's answer to my paranoid question -
"How many cars this ferry can take? Will we all fit?"
"It can take everybody"
And jumping a bit ahead, I can say that during this trip I never had a case of 'not fitting' to the ferry.
Daily mileage: 346 km
